AI tools for X (Twitter): a curated guide
These are the tools that still work with X in late 2026, grouped by the job they do. Each one links to its official site and comes with one factual line about what it does. We only give a pricing type where we could verify it.
How we chose these tools
X's developer API has changed many times since 2023, and third-party tools have come and gone with it. So a tool only made this list if, in October 2026, we could confirm three things from its own website or a recent, dated source: it exists, it works with X specifically (not just "social media" in general), and what it does matches what we say. "Free" means there's a free plan with no time limit. "Freemium" means a free plan with real limits, plus paid upgrades. "Paid" means you have to pay to use it, though many offer a trial. Prices change often, so check the tool's own pricing page before you buy.
This is a selection, not a ranking. The order within each category isn't a score.
Scheduling and publishing
Schedulers let you write posts and threads in advance and publish them at set times. Since X's API changes, not every scheduler on the market can post to X, and some only include X on paid plans.
- BufferFreemium
Schedules posts and threads to X and other networks from one queue, and includes an AI Assistant for drafting.
The free plan covers up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel, and allows one X thread in the queue at a time.
- TypefullyFreemium
A writing and scheduling app for X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon, with thread support and an AI writing assistant.
The free plan allows 10 posts a month. You can draft X Articles in it, but publishing an Article requires X Premium.
- HootsuitePaid
An all-in-one social media management platform for scheduling, a shared inbox and monitoring across many accounts, with built-in AI.
It offers a 14-day free trial with no card required. It's aimed at teams and businesses more than individuals.
- PostizFree to self-host · paid cloud
An open-source (AGPL-3.0) social media scheduler that supports X and many other networks.
Self-hosting is free, but you run your own server and bring your own X developer app, so X's own API charges apply. The hosted cloud version is paid.
- PublerPaid for X
A social media scheduler with a calendar, bulk scheduling and AI help.
Publer has a free plan, but it excludes X accounts. You need a paid plan to schedule to X.
Scheduler pricing moves fast. Two tools we looked at changed their X support or X pricing this year. To see which tools changed recently, try AI Flood's running log of tool updates.
Writing and threads
These tools help you draft, tighten and repurpose posts. On X, short and specific beats long and generic, so treat any AI draft as a first draft and keep your own voice.
- Tweet HunterPaid
An X-only growth tool that combines a large library of viral posts for inspiration, scheduling, and an AI writer for tweets, rewrites and thread hooks.
Every plan has a 7-day free trial. The AI writer isn't on the cheapest plan.
- GrokFreemium
The AI assistant built into X, with live access to X posts and trends. It's useful for drafting, summarising a conversation, or checking what people are saying about a topic.
The free tier has usage caps. Paid X and Grok subscriptions raise them.
-
Buffer's built-in assistant for generating post ideas, repurposing existing posts and condensing long content into short ones.
Buffer says it's available on every plan, including Free, with no usage limits.
- Typefully Writing AssistantFreemium
An AI editor inside Typefully that suggests rewrites, stronger hooks and thread structure, and adapts a post for different networks.
Free use is limited, and paid plans include more. Typefully's own pages describe the free allowance differently, so check before you rely on it.
For general-purpose writing tools that aren't specific to X, such as grammar checkers, long-form assistants and translation, see the AI writing tools tracked on AI Flood.
Analytics
Start with what X gives you. Every account can see metrics for each of its own posts, such as impressions, engagements and link clicks. The account-wide analytics dashboard, with trends, top posts and follower changes, requires X Premium. The tools below add follower analysis, history and reports.
- FedicaFreemium
A scheduling and analytics platform that now includes Followerwonk's follower analysis and X bio search.
The free plan covers basic publishing and analytics. Deeper follower and audience analysis is on paid plans.
- CircleboomFreemium
An X account management tool for analysing your followers and the accounts you follow, cleaning up your account and searching your network.
There's a permanent free tier for one X profile. Detailed analytics and cleanup tools need an upgrade.
- MetricoolPaid for X
A social media analytics and planning tool with reports across networks.
Connecting X requires a paid plan plus a separate X add-on for each account.
- Tweet BinderFreemium
Hashtag, keyword and account analytics for X, with real-time and historical reports.
The free tier covers small reports (up to 200 posts from the last 7 days). Pro access is arranged through its sales team.
If you also run marketing beyond X, AI Flood keeps a broader list of AI tools for marketers, with notes on how recently each was checked.
Reply and engagement assistants
These tools pull your mentions and DMs into one inbox and help you reply faster. Some can suggest a reply with AI. Use them to keep up with real conversations, not to fake them.
Read X's automation rules first. X prohibits bulk or automated replies, duplicate content, and aggressive follow and unfollow behaviour, and it can limit or suspend accounts that do these things. AI suggestions are fine, but a human should read and send each reply.
- Sprout SocialPaid
A social media management suite whose Smart Inbox collects X mentions and DMs. AI Assist can help improve replies on higher plans.
It has a 30-day free trial with no card required. It's priced per seat for teams.
- Hootsuite InboxPaid
Hootsuite's unified inbox for replying to messages across networks. Higher plans add automated inbox workflows.
It's covered by the same 14-day trial as the rest of Hootsuite.
- Buffer CommunityFreemium
Buffer's community inbox for replying to comments and conversations from one place, with AI reply suggestions.
The free plan includes the community inbox, with a small weekly allowance of AI reply suggestions.
-
Tools for keeping up with the accounts you care about, including an X CRM for building lists of accounts and engaging with their posts.
The CRM is on the mid-tier plan and above. Every plan has a 7-day trial.
Inbox tools update their AI features often. Hootsuite's AI Flood listing is one place to see when it last changed.
Image and video creation
Posts with images or short video often stand out on X. These tools help you make post images, headers and short clips without a design team.
- CanvaFreemium
A design tool with ready-made templates for X posts and headers, plus Canva AI tools, and it can publish straight to X.
The free plan includes templates and a monthly allowance of AI uses. Some templates and the newer AI features are paid.
- Adobe ExpressFreemium
Adobe's quick-design app for social posts, with Firefly generative AI and a content scheduler that can publish to X.
The free plan includes 25 Firefly generative credits a month.
- CapCutFreemium
A video editor with templates, captions and AI editing features, suited to short clips.
The free plan covers basic editing and limited AI use. Features such as auto-captions are on Pro.
- Grok ImagineFreemium
The image and video generator inside Grok. It does text-to-image, image-to-video and editing, with clips up to 15 seconds.
Free accounts get limited generations, and paid plans get more.
There are far more generators than we can cover here. Compare options in AI Flood's image tool listings and video tool listings.
Research and monitoring
These are for keeping track of a topic, a brand or a set of accounts over time, or for finding specific people by what they say about themselves.
- X ProPaid
X's own multi-column dashboard, formerly TweetDeck, for watching searches, lists and notifications side by side.
Since March 2026 it has required X Premium+. Standard Premium no longer includes it.
- FollowerwonkPaid
Bio search for X: find accounts by keywords in their profiles, filtered by location, follower count and more. It's now part of Fedica.
Bio search and follower analysis are on Fedica's paid plans.
- Brand24Paid
A media-monitoring tool that tracks mentions, hashtags and sentiment across X and the wider web, and sends alerts.
It has a 14-day free trial. Paid plans are aimed at businesses.
- Grok (for research)Freemium
Because Grok can see live X posts, you can ask it who is talking about a topic or to summarise recent discussion. Always open the posts and accounts it cites to check them.
The free tier has caps.
To see how Grok compares with other AI assistants, Grok's page on AI Flood tracks its updates alongside the rest of the field.
Tools we checked and left out
Some well-known names didn't make the list, and the reasons are useful:
- Hypefury was a popular X scheduler. Its pricing FAQ now says it no longer supports X, so we've left it out. It still covers other networks.
- Publer and Metricool are included above, but neither free plan covers X. We've marked them "Paid for X" so you're not surprised.
- Tools built around mass auto-replies or follow and unfollow automation are left out on purpose. They conflict with X's rules and put your account at risk.
Before you add a tool
- Decide the job first. Most people need a scheduler and something for images. Few need monitoring.
- Check X support on the pricing page. "Supports X" sometimes means a paid add-on or the top plan only.
- Connect the minimum. Give each tool access to only the accounts it needs, and remove apps you no longer use from your X settings.
- Keep a human in the loop. Scheduled posts are fine. Unreviewed automated replies are where accounts get limited.
